Mind and Body Fitness Connections

Personal Training
and You...

Just as each of us have individual dietary requirements, we also have individual exercise requirements. This program identifies which types of exercise will best meet your needs. Before a workout program is ever created, assessments are done that determine: muscle imbalances, core strength, cardiovascular fitness, body composition, flexibility, and problems with gait. Different types of exercise will be used to obtain balance in the body. Each person’s program is customized based on their assessments and may include one or all of the following:

  • Stretching
  • Yoga
  • Qigong
  • Balance Training
  • Weight Training
  • Core Training
  • Increasing Sports Performance
  • Correction of Muscle Imbalances

The importance of muscle balance
The body experiences postural stress when the joints do not align correctly. Over time, this stress due to misalignment creates improper wear and tear on the body, which can ultimately lead to pain and injury. Since, muscles guide bones in movement it is critical that muscles be at their correct length and tension so that they do not put unneeded stress on the joints.

The importance of core strength
There are 29 muscles that attach to the pelvis and spinal cord and they all make up what is known as “the core”. A correctly functioning core acts as a corset or weight belt for the body, protecting the low back and supporting the internal organs. However, most clients over time have lost the mind body connection that enables the muscles to fire correctly. This connection can be lost as a result of postural or dietary habits. Unfortunately most traditional training programs offer only abdominal crunch exercises for the core, however there are many exercises that can be used for the back, abdominal and hip muscles that help restore the core to full functionality. Sometimes however, the loss of connection with the core is from food allergies or other causes of intestinal inflammation. If this is the case, these problems will be addressed with the lifestyle coaching and nutritional counseling portion of the program.
